Auchterarder, Blackford, Dunning

FAST-EXPANDING Auchterarder, or the Lang Toon as it is still often referred to, offers a wide variety of properties, ranging from smart Victorian villas to flats, cottages and contemporary properties.
The main street spans more than a mile and the once congested town has benefited from being by-passed in the 1980s.
While many residents work in Perth, Stirling or even Glasgow, the community feel is enhanced by a secondary school, golf club and a wealth of independent shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
The surrounding area, which includes the world famous Gleneagles Hotel, host to the 2014 Ryder Cup and 2019 Solheim Cup, offers a range of up-market properties, of varying vintages.
Nearby, the village of Blackford is perhaps best known nowadays as the home of bottled water manufacturers Highland Spring and Tullibardine Distillery.
Dunning, Forteviot (a legacy of the Roaring Twenties) and Forgandenny, where independent school Strathhallan is thriving, are among the many villages in this part of Strathearn.
The one-time weaving centre of Dunning, with the ancient tower of St Serfs Church and nine-hole golf and tennis club at its heart, pans out from Thorn Tree Square, which recalls a tree planted in the wake of a Jacobite burning of 1716.
